The Houses Keep Coming

by admin

Merry and Bright House Seems like our “Come on a Our House” theme won’t stop.  We just finished a 12 House quilt in Moda’s Merry and Bright.  We used Marti Michell’s Large Schoolhouse Template Set K.  Marti’s templates have the evened off angles so everything lines up perfectly even the geometric shapes of the roof and the eave.  Judy is working on a “house” of the month, picking cute fabrics for each month’s house.  We’ll post it when she is done.   What a clever idea for a “calendar” quilt.  We are offering the Merry and Bright House quilt as a kit in our online catalog.

August is Watermelon time

by admin

1 of ManyAugust in eastern Tennessee means loads of watermelon and canteloupe.  My Dad’s goal each year is to see how many melons his vines can produce.  This is a block buster year as you can see from the picture below.  Must be the right amount of rain and sun.  Serve that luscious watermelon with cool watermelon fabric makes great summertime napkins and placemats or even a table cloth for that picnic table under the shade tree — where watermelon seed spitting contests can abound.

The Asheville, North Carolina, Quilt Guild Show was this past weekend at the North Carolina Arboretum.  What a venue and what a show.  Over 200 quilts from 17 states were entered with lots of prize money awards.  We participated in the demonstrations and under the mini-cam (sadly, without a manicure) I demonstrated the Wonder-Cut ruler (which makes half-square and 3-part half square triangles in a flash) and showed our House Pillows and Marti Michell’s schoolhouse templates and corner trimmers.
