“Snowmageddon” in Washington, D.C.

by admin

Yep, I wound up in Washington, D.C., this weekend for a conference and a historic snowstorm.  Enjoy these pictures of 30 inches of snow on Saturday and beautiful sunshine on Sunday.  As you can see, my friend Pam and I went prepared — never leave home without that featherweight and rotary cutter, etc. — and boots, gloves . . .

White pre-Christmas Greetings

by admin

Traveling home from Jonesborough last evening in the snow storm took 3 hours (9 miles); today, the snow is beautiful, especially from the cozy warmth of the inside looking out, although MacTavish and Chelsea love the snow from the outside.  The shop is closed today; I am going to catch up on sewing projects.    Shop Holiday hours — closing 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 24, and re-opening on Monday, December 28.  Shop Online!

Joen Wolfrom workshops inspiring

by admin

Joen Wolfroms’ two-day color class and three-day design class are now over.  What an inspiration and great teacher is Joen.  Her amazing Three-in-one Color Tool is a must for those of us color challenged.  She challenged all to find that idea spark and shared techniques to create that special piece.   The Historic Jonesborough sunset was an appropriate introduction to Joen’s lecture on color and design on Thursday evening.

Kaffe Fassett Diagonal Madness Workshop pictures

by admin

Here are some pictures from today’s Diagonal Madness workshop with Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably.  The color and design of these 30 projects were outstanding.  Kaffe finished the day with a critique of each participant’s design board.  They were all awesome and amazingly different.

Linda Kaiser’s “Zelda” published in Mary Lou Weidman’s “Out of the Box”

by admin

Mary Lou Weidman taught a “Story Quilt” class at our shop last spring.   Linda Kaiser, holding her autographed copy of the new book, is shown with Mary Lou at Quilt Market in Houston last weekend.  Linda’s quilt, “Zelda” ( a fortune teller) is featured in the book.  Way to go, Linda!!  The book should be arriving in our shop in the next few days.

The quilt pictured on the right is one of the entries in the Houston Festival competition.  Imagine stitching all of these tiny hexagons together in this intricate structure.

It’s Okay if you Step on My Quilt

by admin

That was the slogan for our booth at last week’s Quilt Expo in Knoxville, TN.  Sponsored by AQS, the show was the first for Knoxville.  We featured all Kaffe Fassett designs and quilts from his latest book Country Garden Quilts.  We exhibited 12 of the quilts from the book.  We even used one of our Kaffe quilts as a “rug.”  The most fun we had was convincing shoppers it was “okay” to step on our quilt.  We had scotch guarded it and put a rubberized mat underneath it.  We invited visitors to take a ride on our “magic carpet.”  We finally had customers sitting on it going through our fabrics and our kits.  Enjoy these pictures.
